THE BASICS:
I am a wife, mother of two fun-loving kids, a math/business teacher, and a curriculum writer. I was also the Curriculum Director at a private, American school in Costa Rica. I am a life long learner, which means I'm never bored! If you want to get to know me a bit better, I have answered some questions below for fun. Where have you lived? Birth to 18: Park Forest, Illinois (south suburb of Chicago) 19 - 22: Eastern Illinois University 23: pretty much my car....I traveled for a year playing professional golf 24 - 26: Denver, Colorado 27 - Current: Guanacaste, Costa Rica What's your favorite movie? A Few Good Men - if you haven't watched it, you should, it's amazing! What is your blog going to be about? It's really not going to be about just one thing. I want to share anything I think people will find interesting about:
What's your favorite number? Every math teacher has to have a favorite number, so are you ready for it?!?.....my favorite number is 12! There is no particular reason behind it, but let's just say I am not a big fan of odd numbers. What's your favorite quote? "I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference." ~ Robert Frost There are so many reasons I love this poem! But mainly, because it reminds me (and my students) that being different and not following the crowd is not always the easy path, but very worth it. What annoys you? When a student WHISTLES in my class. It is like nails on a chalkboard to me. AHHHH! What's your favorite food? That's an impossible question for me to answer. I love and crave all food! I wake up in the morning thinking about what I will have for dinner. I guess I have a special place in my stomach for pizza. I do not drink soda anymore, and I can tell you it's the best thing I ever did in regards to healthy eating. Books or Movies? Definitely BOTH. I love to read, but when the school year gets busy, I prefer to relax and watch a movie. Who's your favorite athlete? It has always been Phil Mickelson, but my newest golf hero is Jordan Spieth. What's your favorite class to teach? It changes from year to year, but right now I'd have to say Algebra 2. What's your teaching style? I don't have just one, otherwise I think my students would get bored. In math, I try to integrate new types of technology every year, discovery learning, engaging activities, guided notes, and my students love their individual whiteboards for quick formative assessments. In business, I incorporate business shows, like the Shark Tank, business literature, and real world activities. So, there you have it, some fun info about me! I hope you enjoy my blog and find useful information here. Best, Tyra |
